We repainted a three-storey building in Cairns CBD. The old grey paint had been copped by salt air and sun, so we sanded everything back to get a clean surface. We went with blue for the new finish — it holds up better against beach winds, salt spray, and sand. The prep took most of the time. Three storeys means scaffolding, and every weathered surface got sanded properly before we put any colour on. The customer wanted something that'd last, and blue coatings handle the coastal climate better than lighter tones that fade fast. CBD buildings cop it from both sides — sun all day, then salt air off the water at night. Most of the multi-storey stock around here is 70s or 80s walk-ups that need a full sand-back every eight to ten years. If you've got a unit block or a taller building that's looking tired, we can quote it and get it sorted without dragging the job out.

We took on a roof out in Smithfield that needed a full prep and respray. Started with a re-screw to tighten everything down, then gave it a sani-clor pressure wash to strip back the grime. Any rust or bubbling from the old coating got treated before we moved on. We sprayed it with Dulux Acratex Cool Roof in Vivid White — a heat-reflective system that cuts down on internal temps, so you're not running the air con flat out. Used our Graco 795 with a 521 tip to get even coverage across the whole roof. Smithfield's got a lot of older homes on big blocks, and plenty of them have colourbond or metal roofs that cop a beating from the heat. A re-screw and proper prep makes a big difference — stops water getting in and gives the coating something solid to stick to. The Cool Roof finish does what it says: reflects the sun instead of soaking it up. You notice it inside straight away.

Full weatherboard strip on a high-set Queenslander in Bungalow, getting rid of old 1980s enamel that was never going to last another coat. We stripped the boards back with a Makita planer and Festool Rotex sanders on 40 grit to get into the tight spots. Once the timber was clean, we sealed it with Duralux PSU primer — one coat — then built the finish up from there with topcoats. Bungalow's full of these older homes. High-set Queenslanders cop the weather hard up here, and if the prep's been dodgy in the past, you end up stripping it all back. That's what happened here. The house looks sharp now and the new system will hold.

Used our Predator petrol gurney with a lance extension to reach the timber eave sections without scaffolding. Balinese homes have deep overhangs and exposed timber detail, so getting into those shadowed spots is important — that's where the mould sits. Took care around the carved panels and left everything clean and ready for the next stage. Cairns CBD has a real mix of housing stock — heritage Queenslanders, 70s walk-ups, newer units — but they all cop the same salt air and humidity.
