Painter Redlynch Valley

Local trade, local prices

Redlynch Valley is a residential pocket of Cairns, and weatherboard homes with raked ceilings and VJ panel boards are part of what we paint there. We repaint inside and out, and we put the work into prep first.

That's MrPaint. Family-run since 2014, based in Smithfield.

What painting in Redlynch Valley actually involves

We recently finished a full interior and exterior repaint on a low-set weatherboard home in Redlynch Valley, part of a full reno. It shows what a lot of homes here need: detailed timber work, high ceilings, and a finish that has to hold up in the tropical weather.

High raked ceilings and VJ panel boards

The house had high raked ceilings and VJ panel boards throughout. That's a lot of timber to get right. We used a semi-gloss water-based enamel on the ceiling panel work and the timber trim, and a low sheen wash and wear on the walls.

Prep that doesn't coat the house in dust

A full reno needs a huge amount of prep: patching, sanding, gapping and plenty of plastering products. We did it with Festool equipment, completely dustless. On this job that meant three boxes of gap filler going into the gaps, and everything masked up before we started.

Working around other trades

On a reno there are other trades on site. We masked everything up and worked around them, and kept the site clean while we did it.

The finish is only as good as what's under it. Patching, sanding and gap filling are what let the top coat sit flat and look right, which is why most of the effort on this job went into prep. Outside, we used Weathershield semi-gloss, and every surface got a spray finish.

We did the interior and exterior painting on a low set weatherboard home in Redlynch Valley, a full reno with high raked ceilings and VJ panel boards throughout. The prep was the bulk of the job. We patched, sanded and gapped every surface using all of our Festool equipment, completely dustless, and went through three boxes of gap filler along with a huge amount of plastering products. We worked around other trades on site and masked everything up before any paint went on. It was tricky, and it went well. The ceiling panel work and timber trim got semi-gloss water-based enamel, so the timber features. The walls got a low sheen wash and wear, and the exterior went on in Weathershield semi-gloss. Everything was a spray finish. Dustless prep matters on a house like this because VJ boards have a lot of joints and edges, and that is where dust and rough patches show under a spray coat. It looks great, and the client's over the moon.
